Immersive technologies for people-centered DRR capacity building in southeast asia: Co-design and knowledge sharing for flood prepardness and response
Water-related disasters, such as floods and typhoons, are becoming more unpredictable and intense due to increasingly unpredictable changes in frequency and intensity as climate change amplifies extreme weather events in South East Asia, which is the most at-risk region to climate change. The impacts of these disasters are disproportionately high among the most socio-economically disadvantaged communities, whose settlements combine precarity and multiple site-related vulnerabilities. This project addresses these challenges through people-centred strategies by engaging communities in co-designing and implementing disaster prevention and mitigation. The project focuses on individual and supporting organisational capacity building in designing, training, and evaluating the use of immersive technologies, such as Extended Reality (XR), to translate the existing assessments and modelling into accessible information to enhance community resilience and preparedness for flood threats, supporting disaster management and decision-making essential for the long-term sustainability of communities.
